Untitled-300x300
A native of Nebraska, Haley was the typical corn-fed Husker- a blonde haired, blue-eyed girl with a contagious smile. Always seeking adventure, she excelled in sports, dance and academics. On July 4, 2001, she became a firecracker when a boating accident rendered her paralyzed traumatically at the age of fourteen. Numerous swipes from a propeller questioned whether or not she would regain the independence she had excelled at pre-injury.

Since the onset of her injury, she has always chosen the path less traveled in order to learn new lessons and make tire tracks for those that would follow. She used her athleticism to find a way to golf paralyzed and earned the spot of Captain of the High School golf team, becoming a “Friday Night Sports Hero” on the news. Throughout high school she remained a class officer, member of the dance team and was awarded the recognition of Honored Queen in the Job’s Daughters Organization.

Haley also enjoys traveling the world and facing obstacles. Inaccessible countries have become part of her wonderful journey through life, and learning how to make anything work. Using this ideology, in 2009, Haley took the plunge and left her home state to relocate in Texas to continue her education in the fields of History and Political Science. A recent graduate of Texas State University, she now resides in Tomball, Texas doing charity work and gearing up for a year of adventure and wonder as she starts on her journey as Ms. Wheelchair Texas 2013. She cannot wait to strive to be an example to others, helping them to cope with disabilities while showing ways to overpower limitations throughout her reign.
